The pipe leg dock should be used where hard bottoms exist. They are not suitable for muddy conditions, as the pipe legs will sink into the mud. A few inches of mud won't cause problems if there is a hard bottom underneath. These docks are suitable for rough water such as Georgian Bay and Lake Huron. Although the maximum water depth for a pipe leg dock should be no more than its width. The great thing about pipe docks is that they are removable for the winter so they do not get damaged by waves, wind and ice.
